Thank you Jim Crawford for your recent comments to the Charles County Charter Board. I agree with most of your comments, especially those about perception of increasing taxes and less citizen input. I view the 2014 proposed charter as an unsuccessful attempt to fix something that may or may not have been broken. I think that the Commissioners vote last year to elect district commissioners within districts rather than at-large went a long way towards fixing a county government issue. Perhaps, that is adequate and that no change in the form of government is necessary for now. So unless today’s charter board can show a measurable improvement in county government service to the county citizens, I, for one, intend to reject change. The old adage “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” applies.
